When it comes to video I love quick, casual experimentation just as much as I love the thought-out arduous detail-heavy stuff; which is why I’ve been loving Vine lately. While I get why a lot of people object to it (typical complaint usually runs something like “how much can you accomplish in six seconds? It [...]

I’ve spent the last few months working as development coordinator for Frederator Studios in Burbank. Finding and fielding pitches for their new YouTube-funded shorts anthology series, I spend my days looking at pages and pages of beautiful work by super-talented illustrators, comic book artists, and animators. So it seemed a natural step to start sharing [...]

What’s this? Why it’s super secret sneaky photos from the new Julia Holter music video I’m producing with director Yelena Zhelezov. The video is currently in post-production and will see the light of day soon enough but I just wanted to leak a little behind-the-scenes photo from this past weeks shoot. Julia was a real [...]

I recently finished editing the condensed version of documentation for my CalArts MFA Thesis installation, Juanita Who Is Loved. The installation, which ran from April 11th – 13th, incorporated looping audio and animation that slowly fell out of sync over the course of each night. Snippets of interviews, radio, archival music, and tonal music played [...]

I’ve updated my illustration page! After playing around with a few different gallery settings (I will forever be tweaking this site) I’ve decided to move the whole thing over to tumblr. Now my daily sketches, photos, and paintings will be easier to see, save, and share!

Ben Hibon, he of the beautiful animated aside in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part I (phew, that was a typefull) is fast becoming my favorite CG designer/animator. Looking beyond his amazing use of textures and atmosphere in this opening sequence for Mirror Mirror, I think he really excels at acting and story telling. [...]

I guess not everyone grew up worshipping Quentin Blake but as a kid with two older sisters my worn copies of Roald Dahl books were some of my first (and most treasured) introductions to illustrations. Spent the other day watching Conan the Barbarian (the new one, alas) and copying Blake’s signature style. I’m not one [...]

There are SO MANY cool things that can be done with paper without ever setting pen or paint to it. After watching the above video about the paper artist Matt Shlian, which I found thanks to DesignSponge, I started doing a bit of research into paper sculpture. And while I was certainly excited by the [...]

Lately I’ve been playing around with things to make and do for quick side projects and one theme that keeps recurring is Tiny Objects. Maybe it’s the dollhouse supplies magazine that keeps getting accidentally delivered to my house. The above title sequence for Herbst really reminds me the work of Paolo Ventura, which is so [...]

I work a lot over the internet, often for clients I won’t see for the entire project or haven’t even met, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned it that’s one can never have too many options when you and a client aren’t looking at the same screen at the same time. I’m working on [...]

Fellow CalArtian/Bardian Ian Samuel‘s new film Caterwaul, which I had the pleasure of making the titles for, now has a trailer online. The film recently screened at RedCat Theater in Los Angeles and will soon be burning it’s way through the festival circuit. Expect big things from this talented, puppet-mad man!

I had my thesis show, Juanita Who Is Loved, this past weekend and after months of planning, animating, and building I’m proud to present the images from show. In the next few days I’ll be posting images from the creation of the show, but after all these months focused on one project I’m ready to [...]
